Bright future for the Romanian writers
The election of a new president may change for the better the fate of Romanian writers and artists. Klaus Iohannis made his first official public appearance as president outside a political event, at Gaudeamus International Book and Education Fair 2014 where he officially launched his biography, “Step by Step” (Pas cu pas) published by Curtea Veche Publishing. For the first time in the modern history of Romania, a president showed respect and consideration for people, books and culture alike. The Fair opening hours had to be prolonged with another sixty minutes so that the President might give all the required autographs. It took almost three hours and two ballpoint pens to sign over 3.500 books.
I am a regular of book shops and book fairs. I will be president who will do his best to recreate the bond between the book and the reader, especially the young one. I believe that culture save us, said the Klaus Iohannis.
Gaudeamus Book Fair is one of the most important Romanian book publishing industry events. Unlike London Book Fair, which targets industry professionals, Gaudeamus is a giant discount book shop that gathers under the same roof most of the Romanian publishing houses. Avid readers can meet their favourite writers, Romanians and foreigns, attend books signings, launch events, conferences and debates.
