In the process of becoming a...writactor.

In the process of becoming a…writactor.

The writactor is a word I’ve just made up thinking about the future….

Because….

I had no idea people want to get out of Ireland. I had no idea there was a medicine called Solpadeine. Maybe because I seldom have headaches. I  get depressed once in a blue moon. And even than, for a brief span of time, only because I move too fast and things happen too slow.

I had no idea a writer can act. Well, other than Woody Allen. But yesterday I was mesmerised by the wonderful Stefanie Preissner, playing herself in “Solpadeine is my boyfriend”, right here, in Bucharest.   She made me realise that there may  be a new way of approaching the readers. That the writer should consider being a bit of an actor once in a while. Getting out, in the middle of his readers, sharing his words out loud. Performing instead of giving a plain, dull lecture. Especially in countries like Romania, for example, which lack a trained audience for authors public reading. Countries (although I doubt there is another in this situation besides Romania, at least in the so -called civilised world), where authors can not live by their craft because the book sales are too low.  Where authors have to have a job and write as a hobby. Or create a powerful personal brand that will pay their bills, or a  six months retreat to Thailand,  to focus on their next big thing.

There, to be a writactor, is  must.

Here’s Stefanie performing:

Soldeine is my boyfriend
